DISNEY is considering shooting the next episode of Star Wars in the Canary Islands.

The Maspalomas dunes in Gran Canaria (pictured) is one of the likely locations for filming the eighth episode in the series which has been running since 1977, as well as other sites in the south of the island.

Producers were said to be ‘enchanted’ by at least 50 kilometres of coastline, particularly the dunes which have a desert-like appearance.

Filming is due to start in 2017 and part eight is likely to be premièred in 2018 to keep up the continuity of a new episode every 18 months.
