TAKING a moment to congratulate his town on the remarkable array of culture festivities on display throughout the year, the culture councillor of Fuengirola revealed the terrific figures his department witnessed in 2015.
Rodrigo Romero was pleased to announce that 107 cultural events brightened the calendar and drew an estimated 77,100 spectators, more people than the town’s official population.
Stating that 2015 was “an exciting year full of news and activities that have been generously supported by the public,” Romero highlighted that more than 40 concerts took place for the public eye, with classical music, jazz, flamenco, rock, pop and bossanova all represented.
Artistic exhibitions were another central feature, with 17 organised in the town, while there were also 12 conferences, 11 cinema displays, six theatre plays, five public talks, three book presentations and two magic shows.
Two festivals were of particular note. The Fuengirola City Festival which drew 7,000 people to Sohail Castle to enjoy fantastic performances from popular music stars, while April’s Rosa Night festival saw thousands cram into the town’s bullring for a night brimming with cultural activity.
Plans are afoot to make this year even more satisfying for Fuengirola’s evident cultural appetite, and will be helped by the town celebrating its 175th anniversary of autonomy in May.
