Children suffer as adults bicker

THE new centre for ADIMI association in Mijas should have been up and running back in May, yet the 164 disabled children who are members of the association are still waiting for access.

Meanwhile the association itself is in turmoil with accusations flying back and forth.

The new building was handed over to the association by the constructor in January, however after an inspection Acosol water company reported that sewage and rainwater drainage was missing and asked for work worth €4,800 to be carried out before the mains water could be connected.

Town Planning councillor for Mijas Andres Ruiz explained that association president Jeronima Carrasco complained that the constructor had not met the requirements and the matter remains unsolved.

Since then faces have been coming and going within the association management with Carrasco first resigning then changing her mind in April, after which the secretary, treasurer and a vice president all decided to resign.

The final straw came on August 30 when centre manager Laura Villa, currently on sick leave due to depression, was fired from her post, as Carrasco claimed the non-profit association could not afford to continue paying her.

As all remains up in the air, those that are suffering the effects are, as is often the case, the children.
