A vehicle crashed into a bookstall on Calle Ramón y Cajal in Torrevieja in the early hours of Thursday morning, completely destroying the installation.

The Local Police attended the scene at around 03:30 and found the sole occupant of the vehicle to be displaying signs of intoxication.

With the shop destroyed and hundreds of books scattered along the seafront road, coupled with the attitude and apparent ability of the driver, led the officers to suspect that the driver had been drinking.

The Guardia Civil attended the scene and carried out a breathalyser test, confirming the suspicions of the police. The driver was subsequently dealt with for the offence of driving whilst under the influence of alcohol and for resisting authority.
