Despite there being hundreds of properties already in construction and available for sale on the Orihuela Costa the local government has approved planning permissions for a further 250 homes to be built, primarily in Lomas de Cabo Roig.

The announcement was made at a recent press call by Councillor Damaso Aparicio who said that the 8 new licenses reflected the upturn in the local construction industry.  He added that building permits “are increasing” every week and that “means that the developers are committed to Orihuela and which is demonstrating revitalisation of the sector.”

What he didn’t say is that the city of Orihuela will continue to reap the benefits of the project whilst the residents of the Orihuela Costa will get little or nothing in return. The extra 250 properties will add extra pressure on the already overburdened infrastructure as they join those many hundreds that are already lying empty.
