A total of 42 companies and municipal services across Orihuela have been recognised by the awarding of the SICTED accreditation, the Sistema Integral de Calidad Turística en Destino, which examines and checks for consistent quality standards in tourist based services.
The tourist information point situated in the Zenai Boulevard has been given the award, along with such venues as the Ché Asador Argentino, Ché Restaurante Italiano and even the gift shop based at the Santo Domingo college, recognising their efforts in improving tourism.
The awards ceremony was held on Thursday at the Maria Moliner library in Orihuela, in an event attended by the mayor, Emilio Bascuñana, the Councillor for Tourism, Sofia Alvarez and the director General of Tourism, Raquel Huete.
Orihuela joined the SICTED program in 2012 with municipal services aiming to achieve the award, then extending it to tourism based companies in 2013. In the three-year period since the commitment to improve standards began, a total of 42 facilities and services have now been recognised by the award.
