And, says Nú ria Ricart, while sandpapering an antique cabinet: “ There could be someone out there who have could help you with a lot of things you don’ t know about. ”
This retired librarian, who has invested months learning how to restore antiques, is currently offering her experience to other individuals on Phyltime, an online platform which usually helps seniors share their skills and find activities .
“ I thought I had been pretty clumsy, and I was a little bit scared about painting, but I love antiques and I thought, ‘ precisely why don’ t I learn how to recover them? ’ ” adds Nú ria.
In a small studio room in Barcelona’ s Sarrià neighborhood, she and her classmates invest their afternoons among paintbrushes plus varnish. But nowadays, it’ h less about the restoration and more a reason to leave the house and meet up with her new friends .
“ I used because I wanted to continue feeling energetic, even if I were no longer operating, and, in the process, I wanted to meet new comers, ” says the 72-year-old.
While she barely understands how to use a cellphone, she bank checks her notifications on the Phyltime application excitedly, every day. Be it a stitching course, a museum expedition or even guitar lessons, there is no limit as to what is offered to seniors, who are desperate to get out and about.
“ One of the main characteristics of the platform is certainly its social function, ” states Phyltime head Juan Luis Domí nguez.
